One of the most important skills a young Asian professional can learn is how to network effectively. Building enduring, mutually beneficial relationships is the name of the game. In fact, it’s a critical component in the process of success in the business and professional world – just ask any senior executive, community leader, politician, or business person.
naisA Global’s Mentor-Protégé Program is designed with the young professional in mind. We offer an inspiring and effective leadership program to our members to enhance their skills and become competitive on a global scale. The role of the mentor has long been acknowledged as an aid to successful individuals across numerous platforms. Our program establishes a collaborative networking framework that enables prominent leaders in Asia and America to guide the most talented young professionals to becoming the next generation of Asian global leaders.
It stands to reason that relationships are a catalyst for success. Relationships are good anchors in a constantly moving professional environment. By joining naisA Global’s Mentor-Protégé Program we put you in touch with proven leaders who are always looking for—and wanting to network with—the best new talent. You will build relationships with them and they can help take you to the next step in your career.
We should always remind ourselves that networking is when people do business with people. Below is some advice to keep in mind as you grow your network and career:
Be active and visible. Put yourself out there! Participate in a variety of networking groups:
Dr. Ivan Misner’s golden rule is “never, ever ask for anything from someone you’ve just met, who you don’t have any relationship with” Misner says that networking is not about passing out your business cards or asking people you don’t know well for favors. The key to successful networking is remember you’re working on building real, deep relationships with your contacts. As Misner says, “Networking is more about farming than it is about hunting. It’s not just about who you know, it’s about how well you know them.”
In an interview with Inc. magazine, networking guru Keith Ferrazzi says, “Every free moment is a chance to call or E-mail someone.” Make a point of constantly reaching out. Remember birthdays. Your network will be useless if you don’t maintain it.
naisA Global is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization dedicated to helping talented young Asian professionals unlock their potential and become great leaders.
